On that fateful day, Major Varadarajan led a team of soldiers to counter militants holed up in a village in Shopian. The militants were involved in terrorizing local communities, and neutralizing them was crucial for restoring peace in the area.

Despite the adverse conditions and the high-risk nature of the operation, Major Varadarajan displayed outstanding leadership and bravery.
