Reports claim that while Gigi, accompanied by her friend and Kai's mother, landed on the Cayman Islands via a private plane, authorities conducted a luggage search due to suspicion of illegal substance possession.

As per local outlet Cayman Marl Road, during the search, officials allegedly discovered "ganja and paraphernalia associated with its consumption" in Gigi's possession.

After the finding, both Gigi Hadid and her friend were arrested on charges of "suspicion of importing ganja and utensils used for the consumption of ganja," as stated by the outlet.

According to the report, Gigi Hadid and her friend appeared in court on July 12, where they pleaded guilty. The supermodel and her friend were fined $1,000 each and are not facing any additional charges.

In a statement to Rolling Stone, Gigi Hadid's representative stated that Gigi was carrying marijuana legally purchased in NYC with a medical license. They also mentioned that medical use of marijuana has been legal in Grand Cayman since 2017. Gigi's record remains clean, and she continued to enjoy her time on the island.

In 2014, Gigi Hadid disclosed that she has Hashimoto's thyroiditis. She shares a daughter named Kai with Zayn Malik, the English singer and former member of the boy band One Direction. Their daughter, Kai, was born in September 2020.
